Instagram analytics FAQs

Can I track my competition or just my own accounts?

With a subscription to our Instagram analytics, you can track any public Instagram account or any hashtags. You will need to authenticate with an Instagram account to get started, but it doesn’t have to be the one you are analyzing. Please note, we will never post on your behalf; the connection gives us permission to access the Instagram API.

Is there any way to determine views per day?

We focus on engagement analytics and how people are interacting with a hashtag or an account’s content. For hashtags, we can measure post deliveries to estimate potential reach. For hashtags and accounts, we also count potential impressions.

Where does Union Metrics get its Instagram data?

At Union Metrics, we’ve built a robust custom system that works with the Instagram API to deliver the closest thing to a full-fidelity streaming experience you’ll find on the market. This means you’ll have full coverage analytics in nearly real time for the accounts and hashtags you’re tracking.

Why do I get an error message when I try to add a new Instagram connection?

If you are getting an error when trying to create a new Instagram connection, it's likely because you need to first log out of Instagram.com. Once you have done so, try to add a new connection to your Union Metrics account once again. Additionally, you can also try a different browser to link a new account.

Why were my Instagram credentials revoked?

To access Instagram's API for analytics, you'll need to authenticate your Union Metrics account with an Instagram account. However, sometimes you'll get a message that those credentials have been revoked, and you need to reauthenticate. Most often the reason this happens is because you have recently changed your Instagram password. To reset your connection in your Union Metrics account settings, follow these steps:

  • Log out of Instagram.com.
  • Click on the gear icon in the top right corner and select Account Settings.
  • Choose the "Add connection" button.
  • Enter the username and the password for any Instagram account.

In general, we recommend no more than 2-3 Trackers to one Instagram connection. High volume Trackers (accounts with more than 100 posts or 25k likes per month, or topics with more than 100,000 monthly posts) should have their own connection to ensure that you do not miss any post activity.
